The Global Environmental Citizen Award recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to furthering knowledge about the global environment and promoting awareness about the urgent need to protect it. The annual award ceremony serves as an inspiration for guests to enhance their own sustainable actions. Tickets are available to the public, and proceeds support the ongoing work of the Center.
The event brings together environmental leaders from numerous sectors: business, policy, academia, entertainment, media and philanthropy. Dinner, featuring local, sustainably grown food, is prepared by master chefs such as Dan Barber of Blue Hill and Blue Hill at Stone Barns, Todd Gray of Equinox Restaurant, Michel Nischan of Dressing Room: A Homegrown Restaurant, and Barton Seaver, author of For Cod and Country.
Recipients of the Global Environmental Citizen Award are chosen by the Center in recognition of their environmental leadership on the global stage.
